Thank
you for visiting the Sturgeon Bay School District website. The Sturgeon Bay
School District provides not only a great education for all of our students but
also provides a well-rounded variety of quality co-curricular programs. You
will find at Sturgeon Bay an environment where staff, students, and community
work together to provide quality opportunities for our students. With this
partnership, great things happen!
Hopefully
you find this website a useful tool in learning about our school district. We
are continually looking for ways to improve the website. If you have any
suggestions, please contact the webmaster
or me.
The 2009-10 school year is just around the corner. I would first
like to thank the Sturgeon Bay community and taxpayers for allowing me to work
for you. It is a privilege to work in a great school system and community.
I have high hopes for the upcoming year at Sturgeon
Bay. During our opening in-service, our staff will take part in a
presentation by Dr. Rita Pearson who will share Ruby Payne’s research on
poverty in the United States. We are fortunate to have Dr. Pearson with us
for this important presentation.
I
am sure most of you are aware of our very serious concerns regarding the state
budget. Our district lost 15.19% in state aid. This loss translates into the
local taxpayers having to pick up approximately $700,000 more funding for our
school district. The overall result will be higher school taxes in the Sturgeon
Bay School District. The increased tax rate is a direct result of the state
budget. Our challenge will be to continue to look for ways to save money so that
we can minimize the impact to the property owners. The board of education and
staff will work hard to plan a school budget for the next two years that
continues to provide a great education and opportunities for students while
being fiscally responsible to the community.
We
appreciate the opportunity to serve the children and community in providing
excellence in education. Our mission is to work together to make Sturgeon Bay
the premier school district in Door County and the Packerland Conference.
Sincerely,
Joe
